Does the Lujin require additional software to be installed?

No. The Lujin is a plug-and-play USB MIDI device. No software or drivers are needed for Windows or Mac, and no software is required to program settings or controller values. All presets and settings are stored on the device.

Just connect it with the provided USB cable and you’re all set.

What are the dimensions of the Lujin?

The Lujin measures 13.5cm wide × 18.5cm deep × 3.5cm tall (2.8cm for the body, 3.5cm including the beech wood side cheeks). It’s compact enough to sit alongside your keyboard without taking up much desk space.

The Lujin is plug-and-play for Windows, Mac, or even an iPad. Just connect it with the provided USB cable and you’re all set.

It also has a 5-pin MIDI DIN socket, so you can connect and control hardware like synthesisers, sequencers, or drum machines.

The faders are 100mm long and feel smooth and light to use. They are well spaced, making them easy to move individually or together. The longer throw length gives you far more resolution than the short faders found on most compact MIDI controllers.

How do I get the fader lights on the Lujin to mirror automation?

The Lujin has lights beneath each of the three faders that can visually reflect the automation data recorded on your tracks. This is especially useful for seeing the dynamics of an instrument or VST at a glance.

To enable this, you need to route MIDI Out from your track back to the Lujin. Many DAWs like Ableton and Reaper support MIDI Out per track by default. Other DAWs require workarounds.

What are the default CC number mappings?

Right out of the box, the Lujin is ready to use. It comes with a default preset (Bank 1) with standard Control Change (CC) values, common for many VST and virtual instruments. This preset is set to MIDI channel 1.

Default mappings:
• Fader Left — CC 1 (Modulation/Dynamics) — 0–127
• Fader Middle — CC 11 (Expression) — 0–127
• Fader Right — CC 21 (Vibrato) — 0–127
• Knob Top — CC 32 (UACC) — 0–127
• Knob Middle — CC 10 (Pan) — 0–127
• Knob Bottom — CC 19 (Reverb) — 0–127
• Button Top — CC 117 — Main=127, Secondary=0
• Button Middle — CC 118 — Main=127, Secondary=0

Question 8

How do I program the CC values for the faders and knobs?

For Faders and Knobs:
1. Short-press the Program button on the back of the Lujin.
2. The values on the screen will flash.
3. Adjust faders or knobs to the desired CC values as shown on the screen.
4. Press Program again to exit.

For Push Buttons:
1. While in Program mode, double-press the Program button (short-press twice).
2. The values on the screen will flash slowly, indicating button programming mode.
3. Rotate knobs to set CC values for each push button.
4. Press Program to exit.

All changes are retained until the device is powered off. Changes can be permanently saved to Preset Banks.

How many Preset Banks can be saved?

The Lujin can store up to 16 custom preset banks, each with unique CC values. The MIDI channel is also stored per preset. For example:
• Bank 1: Configured for your DAW
• Bank 2: Set for a specific VST
• Bank 3: Mapped to a hardware synth via MIDI DIN port on MIDI Channel 10

Saving a Preset Bank:
1. Adjust faders, knobs, buttons, and MIDI channel as desired.
2. Press and hold the Program button until C, P, S appears.
3. Use the middle fader to select a bank (1–16).
4. Press the Save button (bottom button). The screen will show “Saved”.

Loading a Preset Bank:
1. Press and hold the Program button until C, P, S appears.
2. Use the middle fader to select the bank you want to load.
3. Press the Load button (top button). The screen will show “Loaded”.

What device settings are available on the Lujin?

To access settings, press and hold the Program button on the back of the Lujin. The screens will flash C, P, S, showing you’re in Settings Mode.

• C = MIDI Channel. Move the left fader to set (1–16).
• P = Preset Bank. The Lujin stores up to 16 banks. Adjust with the middle fader.
• S = Screen Saver Timer. Adjust with the right fader to set the idle time (0 disables it).

The Lujin is priced at $259.00 USD. Pricing is shown in US Dollars at checkout. The Lujin is currently available for pre-order with shipping in 8–10 weeks.

Question 12

Do you ship to the United States?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Shipping to the USA is available. US customers will see a $44 USD pre-paid import fee added to their order at checkout. This covers duties and taxes in advance, keeping delivery smooth and predictable.

As a small business hand-building every unit, we can’t absorb these import costs. However, we’ll cover the taxes in full for any customers who placed a pre-order before the fee was introduced.

Where does the Lujin ship from?

The Lujin ships worldwide from Christchurch, New Zealand. Each unit is hand-built and locally manufactured by Midifex.

What is your Refund Policy?

Accepted Answer

We have a 7-day return policy, which means you have 7 days after receiving your item to request a return. To be eligible, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, and in its original packaging.

To start a return, contact us at support@midifex.com. If accepted, we’ll send you instructions on how and where to send your package. Items sent back without first requesting a return will not be accepted.

The buyer is responsible for shipping the item back at their own expense.

Damages and issues: Please inspect your order upon reception and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged, or if you receive the wrong item.

Refunds: Once we’ve received and inspected your return, we’ll let you know if the refund was approved. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method within 10 business days. The refund will be for the product value minus freight charged. Please allow additional time for your bank to process the refund.

What does the 12-month Warranty cover?

Every Lujin comes with a 12-month warranty covering manufacturing defects and component failures under normal use. This includes faders, rotary encoders, LED screens, USB connectivity, and the MIDI DIN output. The warranty does not cover physical damage from drops, liquid spills, or unauthorised modifications.

Question 17

There are no lights on the Lujin.

If the LED faders and screens are not illuminating:

1. Check that the USB-C cable is firmly connected at both ends.
2. Try a different USB port (preferably directly on the computer, not through a hub).
3. Try a different USB-C cable.
4. Check that the Lujin appears in your system’s MIDI device list (Audio MIDI Setup on macOS, Device Manager on Windows).

The Lujin is USB-powered, so if it’s not receiving power through the cable, the LEDs won’t light up. If the issue persists after trying these steps, please contact us.

Cubase Configuration:

1. Create a MIDI Track — This track will route data to the Lujin.
2. Create an Instrument Track — Load your preferred virtual instrument.
3. Route the MIDI — Set the MIDI Output of the MIDI track to Lujin. Enable MIDI Send on that same track and target the Instrument Track.

This way, the MIDI plays the instrument while also sending data back to the Lujin for LED feedback.

Note: This method works well, but Cubase doesn’t yet make this routing process seamless. Many users have requested improvements.

Logic Pro — How do I get the fader lights on the Lujin to mirror automation?

To enable this, you need to route MIDI Out from your track back to the Lujin. Some DAWs support this directly, while others require a workaround.

Logic Pro unfortunately doesn’t support per-track internal MIDI Out natively. However, here’s a simple workaround:

1. Create an External MIDI Track — Name it “Lujin.” Set the MIDI Destination to “All.” In the Track Inspector, set the “Internal MIDI In” of the Lujin track to the track you want to monitor.
2. Use Track Stacks — If you’re working with a track stack (e.g. Strings), drag the Lujin track into another stack (e.g. Woodwinds) to monitor a different group.

Pro Tip: Some users keep the Lujin track as the first in their session and simply switch the “Internal MIDI In” as they work on different tracks.
